From him, from Ali ibn Al-Hakam, from Sayf, from Abd al-A‘la who said:
I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about the daytime supererogatory prayer (nafila). Imam عليه السلام said: "Sixteen rak‘ahs, whenever you feel active. Indeed, (Imam) Ali ibn Al-Husayn عليه السلام, peace be upon them both, had specific hours during the day in which he would pray them. If he was preoccupied by his land or by a ruler, He عليه السلام would make them up. The supererogatory prayer is like a gift, whenever it is offered, it is accepted."
