Chapter on the Prayer Times (Mawaqit)

Sa'd narrated from Ahmad from Al-Husayn ibn Sa'id from Hammad ibn Isa from Hariz from Abu Usamah or someone else who said: I once climbed Mount Abu Qubays while the people were praying Maghrib, and I saw that the sun had not actually set; it had only been concealed behind the mountain from the people. I then met Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, and informed him of this. Imam عليه السلام said to me: "And why did you do that? What a bad thing you have done! You should pray it when you do not see it, whether it has set behind a mountain or disappeared, so long as it is not hidden by a cloud or darkness that covers it. What is required of you is your east and your west, and it is not upon the people to investigate further."
