Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Its Description and What is Obligatory and Recommended

Ahmad ibn Abi Abdullah from Al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather Al-Hasan ibn Rashid from Abu Basir from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, from his forefathers عليه السلام, peace be upon them: The Commander of the Faithful (Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام), peace be upon him, said: "When one of you finishes the prayer, let him raise his hands toward the sky and devote himself to supplication." Ibn Saba said: “O Commander of the Faithful, is not Allah سبحانه وتعالى in every place?” Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes." He asked: “Then why does he raise his hands toward the sky?” Imam عليه السلام said: "Do you not read in the Qur'an: 'And in the heaven is your sustenance and that which you are promised'? (Surah Dhariyat 51:22) So from where is sustenance sought except from its place? And the place of sustenance and what Allah سبحانه وتعالى has promised is the heaven."
