Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Its Description and What is Obligatory and Recommended
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى اَلْعُبَيْدِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَ إِسْحَاقَ اِبْنَيْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَهُمَا قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى اَلْفَقِيهِ يَا مَوْلاَيَ نَذَرْتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَتَى فَاتَتْنِي صَلاَةُ اَللَّيْلِ صُمْتُ فِي صَبِيحَتِهَا فَفَاتَهُ ذَلِكَ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ فَهَلْ لَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ مَخْرَجٌ وَ كَمْ يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ اَلْكَفَّارَةِ فِي صَوْمِ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ تَرَكَهُ إِنْ كَفَّرَ إِنْ أَرَادَ ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبَ« يُفَرِّقُ عَنْ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِمُدٍّ مِنْ طَعَامٍ كَفَّارَةً»
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub from Muhammad ibn Isa Al-Ubaydi from Ali and Ishaq, the two sons of Sulayman ibn Dawud, that Ibrahim ibn Muhammad informed them, saying:
I wrote to the Faqih (jurist): "O my master, I made a vow that whenever I miss the night prayer, I would fast the following morning. If he misses it, what should he do? Is there a way out for him, and how much expiation is due upon him for each day he misses if he chooses to offer expiation?" So He wrote: "For each day, he should give a mudd of food as expiation."
