Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Its Description and What is Obligatory and Recommended
عَنْهُ عَنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُوسَى اَلْخَشَّابِ عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ كَلُّوبٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ :«أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ اِخْتَلَفَا فِي صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ فَكَتَبَا إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ كَمْ كَانَتْ لِرَسُولِ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ مِنْ سَكْتَةٍ قَالَ كَانَتْ لَهُ سَكْتَتَانِ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ أُمِّ اَلْقُرْآنِ وَ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ اَلسُّورَةِ»
From him, from Al-Hasan ibn Musa Al-Khashshab, from Ghiyath ibn Kallub, from Ishaq ibn Ammar, from (Imam) Ja'far عليه السلام, from his father عليه السلام, peace be upon them both:
(Imam عليه السلام said) "Two men from among the companions of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, differed regarding the prayer of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. So they wrote to Ubayy ibn Ka'b asking: “How many pauses did the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, have in his prayer?” He said: “He had two pauses, one when he finished reciting the ‘Opening of the Book’ (Surah Al-Fatiha) and another when he finished the Surah."
