مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ : أَنَّ بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِنَا كَتَبَ إِلَى أَبِي اَلْحَسَنِ اَلْمَاضِي عَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ اَلصَّلاَةِ عَلَى اَلزُّجَاجِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا نَفَذَ كِتَابِي إِلَيْهِ تَفَكَّرْتُ وَ قُلْتُ هُوَ مِمَّا أَنْبَتَتِ اَلْأَرْضُ وَ مَا كَانَ لِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ «لاَ تُصَلِّ عَلَى اَلزُّجَاجِ وَ إِنْ حَدَّثَتْكَ نَفْسُكَ أَنَّهُ مِمَّا أَنْبَتَتِ اَلْأَرْضُ وَ لَكِنَّهُ مِنَ اَلْمِلْحِ وَ اَلرَّمْلِ وَ هُمَا مَمْسُوخَانِ»
Muhammad ibn Yahya from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn:
Some of our companions wrote to Abu Al-Hasan Al-Madi, peace be upon him, asking him about praying upon glass. He said: “When my letter reached Imam عليه السلام, I reflected and said to myself: ‘it is from what the earth has produced, and I should not have asked about it.’” So Imam عليه السلام wrote back to him: "Do not pray upon glass, even if your soul suggests to you that it is from what the earth has produced, for it is from salt and sand, and both are transformed (altered)."
