Chapter on the Qiblah (Direction of Prayer)

Narrated by al-Husayn ibn Sa’id from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, who said: I (Muhammad ibn al-Husayn) wrote to the Righteous Servant (Abd Salih عليه السلام), peace be upon him, asking; “A man prays on a cloudy day in an open desert and does not know the direction of the qiblah, so he prays, and then after finishing his prayer, the sun appears and he realizes that he had prayed in the wrong direction. Should he count his prayer as valid, or must he repeat it?” He عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote in reply: "He should repeat it, as long as the time has not passed. Do you not know that Allah سبحانه وتعالى says, and His سبحانه وتعالى word is the truth, ‘So wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah سبحانه وتعالى’?" (Surah Baqarah 2:115)
