Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Explanation of the Fifty-One Rak‘ahs; The Order, Recitation, Tasbih in Bowing and Prostration, Qunut, and What is Obligatory and Recommended Therein

Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Ali ibn Abi Hamzah from Abu Basir, who said: I said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: "When should I perform the two rak‘ahs of Fajr?" Imam عليه السلام said to me: "After the rising of the Fajr." I said to Him عليه السلام: "Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام instructed me to perform them before the rising of the Fajr." So He (Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام) said: "O Abu Muhammad, the Shia came to my father (Imam al-Baqir عليه السلام) seeking guidance, so He عليه السلام gave them a fatwa with the pure truth. But they came to me full of doubt, so I gave them a fatwa based on ‘taqiyyah’ (precautionary dissimulation)."
