Chapter on the Detailed Explanation of Prayer, Including the Obligatory and Recommended, and What is Permissible and Not Permissible.

And from him, from Muhammad ibn Miskin, from Mu’awiyah ibn ‘Ammar, from Najiyyah, who said: I said to Abu Ja’far عليه السلام: "The time of the prayer reaches me or enters while I have not yet prayed, should I begin with the ‘nafilah’ (supererogatory prayer)?" Abu Ja’far عليه السلام said: "No. Rather, begin with the obligatory prayer (‘al-maktubah’), and make up the ‘nafilah’ afterward."
