Chapter on the Detailed Explanation of Prayer, Including the Obligatory and Recommended, and What is Permissible and Not Permissible.

Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub from Ali ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from al-’Alaʾ from Muhammad ibn Muslim, who said: I asked Him عليه السلام about the one who does not recite Surat al-Fatihah in his prayer. Imam عليه السلام said: "There is no prayer for him unless he begins with it, whether aloud or silently." I said: "Which of the two do you prefer: if he is fearful or in a hurry, should he recite a (different) Surah or Surat al-Fatihah?" Imam عليه السلام said: "Surat al-Fatihah."
