Chapter on the Rulings of Congregational Prayer (the Minimum Number for Congregational Prayer, the Description of the Imam, Who Is to Be Followed and Who Is Not to Be Followed, Recitation Behind Both of Them, the Rulings of Those Led in Prayer, and Other Such Rulings Related to It)
This was narrated by Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub from Abd al-Rahman from Abu al-Hasan عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said:
I asked Imam al-Kadhim عليه السلام about a man who is praying behind an imam (of prayer) whom he is following, and the imam (of prayer) goes into rukuh while the man forgets and he is behind him and does not perform rukuh until the imam (of prayer) has raised his head and gone down into sujud. Should he perform rukuh and then catch up with the imam (of prayer) and the people while they are in sujud? Or what should he do? Imam عليه السلام said: “Let him perform rukuh, then go down (to sujud), and complete his prayer with them. Nothing is required of him.”
