Chapter on the Rulings of Congregational Prayer (the Minimum Number for Congregational Prayer, the Description of the Imam, Who Is to Be Followed and Who Is Not to Be Followed, Recitation Behind Both of Them, the Rulings of Those Led in Prayer, and Other Such Rulings Related to It)

Al-Husayn ibn Said from al-Hasan from Zurah from Sama’ah, who said: I asked Imam عليه السلام about an imam (of prayer) who makes a mistake in the Qur’an and does not know what to say. Imam عليه السلام said: “Someone from behind him should prompt him.” He (Sama’ah) said: “And I asked Imam عليه السلام about a man leading the people in prayer, and they hear his voice but do not understand what he is saying.” Imam عليه السلام said: “If he hears his voice, then it suffices him; and if he does not hear his voice, then he should recite for himself.”
