Chapter on the Rulings of Congregational Prayer (the Minimum Number for Congregational Prayer, the Description of the Imam, Who Is to Be Followed and Who Is Not to Be Followed, Recitation Behind Both of Them, the Rulings of Those Led in Prayer, and Other Such Rulings Related to It)

Sa’ad ibn Abdillah from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Abi al-Khattab from al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Khashshab from Ali ibn Asbat from some of his companions from Abi Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, and Abi Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him: Imam عليه السلام was asked concerning a man who is behind an imam (of prayer) but does not follow him in prayer, and the imam (of prayer) precedes him in the recitation. Imam عليه السلام said: “If he has already recited the ‘Umm Ul Kitab’ (Surah al-Fatihah), it suffices him. He interrupts (his own recitation) and bows.”
