Chapter on the Prayer of the Two Eids

And from him, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa from Yaqub ibn Yazid from Hammad ibn Isa from Hariz from Zurarah from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: I (Zurarah) asked: “(If) I caught the imam (of prayer) while he was delivering the sermon.” Imam عليه السلام said: “You sit until he (imam of prayer)) finishes his sermon, then you stand and pray.” I asked: “Should I begin with making up the prayer (qadah) or start with my own prayer?” Imam عليه السلام said: “No, rather start with your own prayer and this ruling applies only in this prayer.” I asked: “Then what if I catch part of the obligatory prayer with the imam (of prayer) and then complete the rest afterward?” Imam عليه السلام said: “As for what you catch from the obligatory prayer, it is the beginning of your prayer, and what you make up is its end.”
