Chapter on the Prayer During Travel

From him, from al-Himyari, who said: I wrote to Abu al-Hasan عليه السلام, peace be upon him: “May I be your ransom, your followers narrate from your forefathers عليه السلام that; ‘The Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, performed the obligatory prayer (al-faridah) on his mount on a rainy day.’ Rain falls upon us while we are in our litters (mahamil), and the ground is wet, and the rain causes harm, so is it permissible for us? O’ my master, (Is it) to perform the obligatory prayer in such a state, in our litters or on our riding animals, Allah سبحانه وتعالى willing?” Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote in reply: “That is permissible, in the case of severe necessity.”
