Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 3|Book 2|Chapter 1
Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from Ibn Bukayr, who said:
I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about a man who goes hunting for a day, or two days, or three days. Should he shorten the prayer? Imam عليه السلام said: “No, unless the man is accompanying his brother in faith. Indeed, hunting is a vain journey (‘masir batil’) in which the prayer is not to be shortened.” And Imam عليه السلام said: “He shortens (the prayer) if he is accompanying his brother.”
