Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 3|Book 2|Chapter 1
And from him, from Abu Ja’far from al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar, who said:
I said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: “At what distance do I shorten the prayer?” Imam عليه السلام said: “At a ‘barid’. Do you not see that the people of Mecca, when they go out to ‘Arafah, shortening becomes obligatory upon them?”
