Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

From him, from Ali ibn Khalid from Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal from Amr ibn Saeed from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from Ammar al-Sabati who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about a man who leads a group in prayer, and another group joins his prayer after he has already performed one rak‘ah or more than that. When he finishes his prayer, and gives the salam, is it permissible for him as the imam (of prayer) to leave his place (of prayer) before those who joined the prayer (later) have finished? Imam عليه السلام said: “Yes.”
