Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings
Al-Husayn ibn Saeed from Hammad ibn Isa from Muawiyah ibn Wahb who said:
I said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: “Does the imam (of prayer) bear responsibility for the obligatory prayer? For these people claim that he does.” Imam عليه السلام said: “He does not bear responsibility, what is it that he would bear responsibility for? Except if he were to lead them in prayer while in a state of janabah or without purity?”
