Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

From him, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Hammad, from al-Halabi, who said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام about covered mosques, is it disliked to stand in them? Imam عليه السلام said: “Yes, but prayer in them does not harm you today. And if justice were to be established, you would see for yourselves what would be done in that regard.” He (al-Halabi) said: “And I asked Imam عليه السلام, ‘May a man hang up his weapon in the mosque?’” Imam عليه السلام said: “Yes, but not in the ‘Great Mosque’ (al-Masjid al-Akbar), for my grandfather (Imam Ali ibn Husayn عليه السلام), peace be upon him, forbade a man from sharpening an arrowhead (mishqas) in the mosque.”
