Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

From him, from Ahmad ibn al-Hasan, from Amr ibn Sa'id, from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah, from Ammar, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام was asked about a man who leads a group in prayer, is it permissible for him to wear a sash (yatasashah)? Imam عليه السلام said: “No. A man must not lead a group in prayer while he is wearing a sash over his clothes, even if he has many clothes on, because it is not permissible for the imam (of prayer) to pray while wearing a sash.” And (Imam عليه السلام was asked) regarding a man who catches the imam (of prayer) just as he has finished with the salam. Imam عليه السلام said: “It is upon him to give the adhan and the iqamah and begin the prayer.”
