Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

Al-Husayn ibn Sa’id from Fadalah from Ibn Sinan from Sulayman ibn Khalid who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about a woman leading women in prayer. Imam عليه السلام said: “If they are all women, she may lead them in the recommended (nafilah) prayer. As for the obligatory (maktoobah) prayer, no. And she should not stand in front of them, but rather she should stand in the middle of them (in the same row).”
