Al-Husayn ibn Sa'id, from his brother, from Zur'ah, from Sama'ah ibn Mihran, who said:
I (narrator) asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about ‘zakat, Is it proper for the owner of a house and a servant to receive it?’ Imam عليه السلام said: “Yes, unless his house is a house that produces income, from whose yield dirhams come out that suffice him and his dependants. If the yield does not suffice him and his dependants for their food, clothing, and needs, without extravagance, then zakat has become lawful for him. But if its yield suffices them, then no.”
