Chapter on Khums and Spoils of War (Ghanaim)

Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Abu Ayyub, from Muhammad ibn Muslim: I (narrator) asked Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about ‘the salt-marsh (mallahah).’ Imam عليه السلام said: "And what is the salt-marsh?" So he (narrator) said: “It is barren saline land (ard sabikha) and salty, in which water gathers and then becomes salt.” Imam عليه السلام said: "This is a mineral (ma'din); in it is the fifth (khums)." So I (narrator) asked: “And sulphur and oil which are extracted from the earth?” He (narrator) said: “Imam عليه السلام said, ‘This and its likes, in them is the fifth (khums).’"
