Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting
Al-Husayn ibn Said, from al-Hasan, from Zurah, from Samaah, who said:
I (narrator) asked Imam عليه السلام about ‘the traveller, at what distance does he shorten the prayer?’ Imam عليه السلام said: “At the journey of a day, and it is eight farsakhs (24 miles). Whoever travels and shortens the prayer breaks the fast, unless he is a man accompanying someone, or he goes out for hunting, or to a village of his, and it is the journey of a day, but he does not stay overnight away from his family; he does not shorten and he does not break the fast.”
