Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting
Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Mahziyar, who said:
Bundar, the client of Idris, wrote: “O my master, I vowed to fast every Saturday. If I do not fast it, what expiation becomes binding upon me?” So the Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote, and I (narrator) read it: “Do not abandon it except due to an illness, and fasting it is not upon you while travelling nor in illness, unless you had intended that. So if you have broken the fast from it without an illness, then give charity, for each day, to seven poor persons. We ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى for success in what He سبحانه وتعالى loves and is pleased with.”
