Chapter on Ruling of the Unconscious Person, the One Afflicted with Bile (Sahib al-Mirrah]) and the Insane Person Regarding Prayer and Fasting

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qasani, who said: I (narrator) wrote to the Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, while I was in Madinah, asking Imam عليه السلام about ‘one who is unconscious for a day or more, does he make up what he missed?’ So the Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote: “He does not make up the fast.”
