Chapter on Categories of Fasting and the Explanation of All of Them with Clarification

Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from a number of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, from Ibn Mahbub, from Ibn Riab, from Zurarah, from Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: I (narrator) asked Imam عليه السلام about ‘a man who killed a man by mistake in the sacred month.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “The punishment is made more severe upon him, and upon him is freeing a slave or fasting two consecutive months from the sacred months.” I (narrator) asked: “Then something enters into this.” Imam عليه السلام said: “And what is it?” I (narrator) replied: “The day of Eid and the days of al-Tashriq.” Imam عليه السلام said: “He fasts, for it is a right that has become binding upon him.”
