The Imamate of al-Bāqir, Abī Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAlī

Saʿd, from Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā b. ʿUbayd, from Ḥammād b. ʿĪsā, from Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar, from Abī ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام. Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar narrated: “A man came to Abī ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام, to ask him about the Imams عليهم السلام. The Imam named them until he reached his son,[1] then he said: “This is how the Divine ordinance is, and the Earth cannot be rectified except by an Imam. The Apostle of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله said: “Whoever dies without having recognised his Imam dies a death of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance,” and Abī ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام said this thrice.”
