Al-Imāma wa’l-Tabṣira min al-Ḥayra|Volume 1|Book 3|Chapter 10
Saʿd b. ʿAbd Allāh, from Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā, from ʿAlī b. al-Nuʿmān, from Hārūn b. Khārija, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū Jaʿfar عليه السلام, who said: “Dhū’l-Qarnayn was not a prophet, but he was a righteous servant who loved Allāh and whom Allāh loved, and he was sincere to Allāh, so Allāh dealt sincerely with him. He adjured his people to be conscious of Allāh, so they struck him on one of his horns,[1] whereupon he occulted from them for a time, and then returned to them, so they struck him on his other horn. And among you is one who follows his precedent.”
