Al-Imāma wa’l-Tabṣira min al-Ḥayra|Volume 1|Book 3|Chapter 12
Saʿd b. ʿAbd Allāh said: “Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn Abī ʿUmayr, from ʿUmar b. Udhayna, from Burayd b. Muʿāwiya al-ʿIjlī, who narrated: “I said to Abī Jaʿfar عليه السلام: “What is the meaning of ﴾You are only a warner, and there is a guide for every people﴿?” [13:7]—so, he said: “The warner is the Apostle of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله, and ʿAlī is the guide. And in every time and age there is an Imam from among us, who guides them (his people) to what the Apostle of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله came with.”
