Descriptions of the Mahdī

Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā, from Salama b. al-Khaṭṭāb, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad, from Munayʿ b. al-Ḥajjāj al-Baṣrī, from Majāshiʿ, from Muʿallā from Muḥammad b. al-Fayḍ, from Abī Jaʿfar صلوات الله عليه, who said: “The staff of Mūsā was originally with Ādam عليهما السلام, so it passed down to Shuʿayb and then it passed down to Mūsā b. Amran, and now it is in our possession. Indeed, I last saw it very recently. It is green, just as its appearance was when it was plucked from its tree, and it speaks when one bids it to do so. It has been prepared for our Qāʾim عليه السلام so that he may do with it what Mūsā b. Amran عليه السلام used to do with it. It does as it is ordered to, and wherever it is thrown, it swallows what they were faking [1] with its tongue.”
