My father (may Allah سبحانه وتعالى be pleased with him) wrote in his letter to me: "If you can pray six rak'ahs when the sun rises on Jumu’ah, six rak'ahs when it spreads out, two rak'ahs before the obligatory prayer, and six rak'ahs after the obligatory prayer, then do so." In the Nawadir of Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, it is mentioned: "And two rak'ahs after Asr." If you perform all your nawafil (supererogatory prayers) on Jumu’ah before the sun declines or delay them until after the obligatory prayer, it will be sixteen rak'ahs. Delaying them is better than performing them earlier. Once the sun declines on Jumu’ah, do not perform anything but the obligatory prayer. In the Isha' prayer of Thursday night, recite Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-A'la (Sabih isma rabbika al-a'la). In the Fajr, Dhuhr, and Asr prayers on Jumu’ah, recite Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-Munafiqun. If you forget them or one of them during Dhuhr and recite something else, return to reciting Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-Munafiqun, as long as you have not read half of the Surah. If you have read half, then complete it, consider the two rak'ahs as voluntary (nafl), and repeat the prayer with Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-Munafiqun. It is not an issue if you perform Isha', Fajr, and Asr without Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-Munafiqun, though it is preferred to recite them. If someone intends to recite a Surah in prayer but recites a different one, they should return to the intended Surah, except for Surah Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad (Surah al-Ikhlas), from which they should not turn away except during the Dhuhr prayer on Jumu’ah, when they may return to Surah al-Jumu'ah and Surah al-Munafiqun. The dispensation to recite other than these two Surahs during Dhuhr on Jumu’ah applies to those who are ill, in a hurry, or traveling.
