On Various Traditions From Imam Ali Ibn Musa al-Ridha صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم

28-63 (The author of the book narrated) my father - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Sa’d ibn Abdullah quoted on the authority of Yaqoob ibn Yazid, on the authority of Obayd ibn Hilal that he had heard Abul Hassan Al-Ridha صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم say, “I like that a believer be an innovator.” Obayd ibn Hilal asked the Imam صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, “What do you mean by innovator?” The Imam صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied, “I mean that he be one who understands things.”
