In response to a Kolayb al-Jarmi who came from Basra to enquire about his position vis-a-vis the people of Jamal
قال: كُنْتُ تَارِكَهُمْ وَمُخَالِفَهُمْ إلى الْكَلاَءِ وَالْمَاءِ.
He said: I would leave them and go towards greenery and water.
