Zakariyya ibn Adam asked Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha عليه السلام about the distance for shortening prayers when a man is in the lands belonging to his family and has control over them, traveling through these lands for two days and two nights or three days and their nights. Abu al-Hasan عليه السلام wrote in response, "Shortening is applicable for the journey of one day and one night."
