Chapter on Water and Its Rules, and What is Permissible and Impermissible for Purification

The Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, narrated to me from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from his father Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Husayn ibn Sa'id, from Uthman ibn Isa, from Sama‘ah, from Abu Basir, from Abu Ja'far عليه السلام, who said: I asked Imam عليه السلام about a beetle (khunfasa') that falls into water. Can one perform Wudu' (ablution) with it? Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes, there is no harm in it." I said: "What about a scorpion?" Imam عليه السلام said: "Pour it (water) out."
