Chapter on Guiding the Dying, Positioning Them at Death, Procedures for Their Final Moments, Washing Them, and Placing Them in Shrouds
And through this chain of narrators, from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid, from ‘Ali ibn Asbat, from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah:
He said: "A son of one of the companions of Abu ‘Abdullah عليه السلام passed away. Abu ‘Abdullah عليه السلام attended the funeral. When the child was placed in the grave, his father stepped forward to pour soil over him. Abu ‘Abdullah عليه السلام took hold of his hands and said: 'Do not pour soil over him, and no one who is a close relative (Dhu Rahim) should pour soil over him.' We said: 'O son of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, do you prohibit only him from doing this?' Imam عليه السلام said: 'I prohibit you from pouring soil over your close relatives, for it causes hardness in the heart, and whoever's heart becomes hard, grows distant from his Lord عز وجل.'"
