Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي هَمَّامٍ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ هَمَّامٍ عَنْ أَبِي اَلْحَسَنِ اَلرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ حِينَ أُحْضِرَ« إِذَا أَنَامِتُّ فَاحْفِرُوا وَ شُقُّوا لِي شَقّاً فَإِنْ قِيلَ لَكُمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ لُحِدَ لَهُ فَقَدْ صَدَقُوا».
Sahl ibn Ziyad, from some of his companions, from Abu Hammam Isma'il ibn Hammam, from Abu Al-Hasan Al-Ridha عليه السلام, who said:
Abu Ja'far عليه السلام, when He عليه السلام was near death, said: “If I die, dig and make for me a trench-like grave. And if it is said to you that the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family, was buried in a niche (lahd), then they have spoken the truth.”
