Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

Al-Husayn ibn Sa'id, from Hammad ibn Isa, from Hariz, from Zurara, from Abu Ja'far عليه السلام, who said: Imam عليه السلام said: “When you place the deceased in his niche, say: ‘In the name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and in the way of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and upon the faith of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family.’ Then recite Ayat al-Kursi, and strike your hand on his right shoulder, then say: ‘O so-and-so, say: I am pleased with Allah سبحانه وتعالى as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, with Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم as my Messenger, and with Ali عليه السلام as my Imam.’ Mention then the Imam عليه السلام of his time, by name. After the grave is covered with soil and leveled, place your palm on his grave at the head, spread your fingers, and press your palm firmly on it after sprinkling it with water.
