Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

Narrated by Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Zakariya, from his father, from Humayd ibn Al-Muthanna, from Abu Abdurrahman Al-Hadhdha’, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام: Imam عليه السلام said: "The first bier (na‘sh) introduced in Islam was the bier of (Sayyida) Fatimah صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, peace be upon her. She صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم fell ill with the illness (injury) that led to her passing, and she صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم said to Asma’: 'I have become frail, and my body has thinned. Will you not make something to cover me (my body)?' Asma’ replied: 'I was in the land of Abyssinia, and I saw them making something. Shall I make it for you? If you like it, I will make one for you.' (Sayyida) Fatimah صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم said: 'Yes.' So Asma’ called for a bed frame and turned it upside down. Then she brought palm branches and tied them to its legs and covered it with a cloth. She said: 'This is how I saw them doing it.' (Sayyida) Fatimah صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم said: 'Make one like this for me. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى protect you from the Fire as you have protected me.'"
