Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

Narrated by Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn Isa Al-Ubaydi, from Al-Husayn ibn Ubayd: I (Narrator) wrote to Imam Al-Sadiq عليه السلام, asking whether Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام, performed ghusl (ritual purification) after washing the body of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family, at the time of His صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم death. Imam عليه السلام replied: 'The Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family, was pure and purified, but Commander of the Faithful, (Imam) Ali ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام, did perform the ghusl (of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم), and this became a Sunnah.'"
