Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ وَاَلْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ اِبْنِ مُسْكَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ أَبِي اَلْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ غُسْلِ اَلْمَيِّتِ فَقَالَ« أَقْعِدْهُ وَ اِغْمِزْ بَطْنَهُ غَمْزاً رَفِيقاً ثُمَّ طَهِّرْهُ مِنْ غَمْزِ اَلْبَطْنِ ثُمَّ تُضْجِعُهُ ثُمَّ تَغْسِلُهُ تَبْدَأَ بِمَيَامِنِهِ وَ تَغْسِلُهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَ اَلْحُرُضِ ثُمَّ بِمَاءٍ وَ كَافُورٍ ثُمَّ تَغْسِلُهُ بِمَاءِ اَلْقَرَاحِ وَ اِجْعَلْهُ فِي أَكْفَانِهِ».
Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Aban, and al-Husayn ibn Sa'id, from Faddalah, from Husayn, from Ibn Muskan, all from Abu al-Abbas, who narrated from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام:
I asked Imam عليه السلام about the washing of the deceased. Imam عليه السلام said: "Sit him up and press his stomach gently, then cleanse him from what comes out due to pressing the stomach. Then lay him down, and wash him starting with his right side. Wash him with water and lotus leaves, then with water and camphor, and finally wash him with pure water. Then place him in his shroud."
