Chapter on Etiquettes of Causes Requiring Purification

Narrated to me by the Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from his father, from Muhammad bin Yahya and Ahmad bin Idris, both of them, from Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Yahya, from Muhammad bin Ahmad, from his father, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Hammad bin Uthman, from Ubaydullah Al-Halabi, from Abu Abdullah عليه السلام, who said: I asked Imam عليه السلام about wudu (ablution) and how many times a man should pour water over his right hand before placing it into the vessel. Imam عليه السلام said: 'Once for impurity caused by sleep or urination, twice for impurity caused by defecation, and three times for impurity caused by janabah (major ritual impurity).'
