Narrated by Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahboub, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Alawi, from al-Amraki, from Ali ibn Ja'far, from his brother Imam Musa ibn Ja'far عليه السلام, who said:
I asked Imam عليه السلام about a junub person or one not in a state of wudu who has no water but finds snow and clean earth. Which is better, to perform tayammum or to wipe his face with snow? Imam عليه السلام said: "Snow is better if he wets his head and body with it. However, if he cannot perform ghusl with it, then he should perform tayammum."
