Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 1|Book 1|Chapter 8
What was narrated to me by the Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from his father, from al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan ibn Aban, from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id, from al-Qasim ibn ‘Urwah, from Ibn Bukayr, from Zurarah, from one of the Imams عليه السلام:
Imam عليه السلام said: "If the traveler does not find water, let him wait as long as the time (for the prayer) remains. If he fears that the time will pass, let him perform tayammum and pray at the end of the time. If he finds water afterward, there is no need for him to make up the prayer. However, he should perform ablution (wudu’) for future prayers."
