Chapter on Rulings on Forgetfulness (Sahw) in Prayer and What Requires Repeating of Prayer

And from him, from Muhammad bin Yahya, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Ali bin Hadid, from Jamil, from some of our companions: Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said regarding someone who does not know whether he prayed three rak‘ahs or four, and his doubt between them is equal. Imam عليه السلام said: "When the doubt is equal between three and four, then he has a choice: if he wishes, he may pray one rak‘ah while standing, and if he wishes, he may pray two rak‘ahs with four prostrations."
