Chapter on What is Permissible to Pray in, from Clothing and Place, and What is Not Permissible to Pray in, from That

Al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id, from Safwan ibn Yahya, from al-‘Ayyas ibn al-Qasim, who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about churches (biya’) and synagogues (kanaʾis), can one pray in them? Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes." And I asked Him عليه السلام: "Is it permissible to tear them down and build a mosque in their place?" Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes."
