Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Its Description and What is Obligatory and Recommended
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ اَلْعَلاَءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ اَلرَّجُلُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ اَلْقِيَامُ بِاللَّيْلِ تَمْضِي عَلَيْهِ اَللَّيْلَةُ وَ اَللَّيْلَتَانِ وَ اَلثَّلاَثُ لاَ يَقُومُ فَيَقْضِي أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ أَمْ يُعَجِّلُ اَلْوَتْرَ أَوَّلَ اَللَّيْلِ قَالَ« لاَ بَلْ يَقْضِي وَ إِنْ كَانَ ثَلاَثِينَ لَيْلَةً»
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn from Safwan from Al-Ala' from Muhammad from one of the two (Imams عليه السلام), peace be upon them, who said:
I said to Imam عليه السلام: “A man who is accustomed to standing for the night prayer, a night, two nights, or three pass and he does not stand; is it more beloved to you that he performs the witr prayer early at the beginning of the night, or that he makes it up?” Imam عليه السلام said: "No, rather he should make it up, even if it is for thirty nights."
