أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ اَلْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا اَلْحَسَنِ اَلرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ عَنْ سَاعَاتِ اَلْوَتْرِ قَالَ «أَحَبُّهَا إِلَيَّ اَلْفَجْرُ اَلْأَوَّلُ» وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَفْضَلِ سَاعَاتِ اَللَّيْلِ قَالَ« اَلثُّلُثُ اَلْبَاقِي» وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ اَلْوَتْرِ بَعْدَ فَجْرِ اَلصُّبْحِ قَالَ« نَعَمْ قَدْ كَانَ أَبِي رُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ بَعْدَمَا اِنْفَجَرَ اَلصُّبْحُ»
Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Isma‘il ibn Sa‘d al-Ash‘ari, who said:
I asked Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about the times for Witr. Imam عليه السلام said: "The most beloved of them to me is the first dawn." And I asked Him عليه السلام about the best hours of the night. Imam عليه السلام said: "The last third." And I asked Him عليه السلام about performing Witr after the dawn of morning has broken. Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes, my father would sometimes perform Witr after the dawn had broken."
